Exonerated

We conjure bold assurance out of thin air

And help ourselves against all restraint

All bluster and unjustified nonchalance

Reflected in a cafeteria sneeze guard

Pretend cool cucumbers more alone than together

When the lightning strikes from an arid living sky

And fate finally responds to all the pretense

In this salad bar purgatory of lunching jurors

We trace all causes back to creation by a hand

And exonerated we go, unburdened by any touch of it

  1. Note: I changed the last line of this piece a day later and also added a couplet to the one entitled “Followers” from a few days ago. I just can’t leave them alone and I tend to get impatient and post before I really am satisfied with a thing, if ever. – PgR
